This presentation will focus on using AI, specifically ChatGPT, as a tool to help student writers in the composition classroom. Although challenges and drawbacks will be examined and plagiarism issues will be discussed, especially in the writing classroom, ChatGPT will be shown to be a useful tool that students can use to help them develop ideas and complete writing assignments. From developing thoughtful research questions to organizing their ideas to providing a greater understanding of the opposition, ChatGPT can be useful tool for students as they develop and write research-based papers, especially persuasive ones. Examples of how it can be used will be shared and discussed.

Dr. Jennifer Haber,

Purdue Global

Dr. Jennifer Haber has been an educator for over 25 years, most of them online. She teaches a variety of writing classes, including Composition 1 and Composition, and has worked with writers all over the US. Currently, she teaches at Purdue Global University, where she is a Service-Learning Fellow and Course Lead for Technical Writing. She has presented at dozens of conferences on topics, such as AI, writing, empathy, and online teaching and learning.
